Tengen Toppa Grapearl (天元突破グラパール Tengen Toppa Gurapāru?, literally "Heaven-Piercing Grapearl") is Gimmy and Darry's Tengen Toppa Gunmen formed during the final battle with the Granzeboma in the second movie adaptation of the series, The Lights in the Sky are Stars. It is later lost when it is used with the other Tengen Toppa Gunmen to help form Super Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.
Tengen Toppa Grapearl draws its designs from the Grapearl units, copies of Gurren Lagann. Its appearance is more of a combination of Gimmy and Darry's Grapearl units, with its color scheme being split down the middle. It is the ninth Tengen Toppa Gunmen to appear after the Granzeboma destroys Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.
In The Lights in the Sky are StarsEdit
Tengen Toppa Grapearl follows up Makken's Tengen Toppa Mo-Shogun with its two guns. It then joins the rest of Team Super Galaxy Dai-Gurren in focusing fire on the Granzeboma just before the arrival of Tengen Toppa Dai-Gurren, and before it and the other Tengen Toppa Gunmen combine into Super Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.
Tengen Toppa Grapearl has two guns, both of which are drawn from Gimmy and Darry's Grapearl designs after their units receive an upgrade to Spiral weaponry. It possesses both Gimmy's Spiral handgun and Darry's Spiral rifle, and can use them simultaneously.
- Tengen Toppa Grapearl is the only Tengen Toppa mech based on a smaller mech that is not a Gunmen.
- Appropriately enough, Tengen Toppa Grapearl's design is rather reminiscent of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann's.
- Gimmy's name is derived from the Japanese word migi, which means right, and Darry's name is derived from the Japanese word hidari, meaning left. Appropriately, Tengen Toppa Grapearl is coloured pink down the left half, which Darry pilots, and blue down the right half, which Gimmy pilots.
- The design of the combination betwen Darry and Gimmy, has a resemblance to the design of the robots of GaoGaiGar known as TenRyuJin, ChoRyuJin, GekiRyuJin, GenRyuJin and GouRyuJin; their designs are based around one colour dominating one half, and another colour dominating the other.
