The Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann (超銀河グレンラガン, Chōginga Guren Ragan), christened by Simon, is a colossal battleship-type Gunmen akin to the Arc-Gurren which first appeared in the prologue of the first episode before being formally introduced near the end of the third part of the series. It is the transformed version of the Spiral flagship Super Galaxy Dai-Gurren (超銀河ダイグレン, Chōginga Daiguren).
History[]
Originally, it was called the Cathedral Terra and it was Lordgenome's flagship against the Anti-Spirals in the past until Lordgenome was turned to the will of the enemy and was made King of Earth. It then assumed the form of the moon, acting as a sentry to report any Spiral activity on Earth.
This was until the climactic battle during Antispiral's attack on the Arc-Gurren. The Cathedral Terra reveals its true identity and attacks the Spirals. After Simon defeats and reclaims it for the Spirals and Team Dai-Gurren, it becomes their flagship for the final part of the series on their crusade to defeat Antispiral and save Nia, and from that point onward. Because of its size, the people on board use transportation technology to move around the ship. Its combat abilities are unparalleled by any other battleship-type mecha in the series, sporting an enormous array of missiles, beam weapons and shielding capabilities. It also has the capability to transverse to other worlds and universes and has the manufacturing capabilities to create hundreds of Arc-Gurren Lagann -sized mecha in a small period of time.
During the final battle with Antispiral, when dealing with larger Ashtanga, Simon channeled enough Spiral Power, with aid from the Spiral Power of those who came before him and initiated transforming the battleship into a humanoid shape and wiped out the opposition. This Gunmen was named by him, the Transcendent Super Spiral Dreadnought Gunmen: Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann (超銀河グレンラガン, Chōginga Guren Ragan).
The Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann is about half the size of Earth. It is piloted by a cascading control interface. The system goes as such: Simon pilots the Gurren Lagann, which is in turn pilots the Arc-Gurren Lagann, mimicking his moves, which controls the Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann.
Similar to the Gurren Lagann itself, the Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann sports a colossal pair of sunglasses on its torso materialized during transformation along with a smaller pair for the head, both of which can be used to fuse with each other.
The sheer size of this mech allows for the channeling of greater quantities of Spiral Power, so much so that Lordgenome compared its potential power to rival the micro cosmos. Like the Gurren Lagann, it has the power to create drills from many points on its body at once, and even uses a planetary version of its signature Giga Drill Break attack; the Super Galaxy Giga Drill Break. Additionally, the mech is equipped with thousands of cannons that appear via pilot's command, from the treads of the mech's drills (and, in some cases, within the treads of those cannons, which resembled drills). The Mega Vortex Maelstrom Cannon is capable of shooting a myriad of beams throughout every possible space-time and dimension in the near past and near future simultaneously.
In Gurren Lagann Parallel Works episode 8, which focused on Lordgenome's era as a Spiral Warrior, it is shown how he used the Cathedral Terra in Gunmen mode to wipe out the human race. Though it resembled the Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann, it lacked the star sunglasses and generally resembled Lazengann. It was piloted by Lazengann inside the Dekabutsu rather than the Gurren Lagann inside the Arc-Gurren Lagann. While in battleship mode, Cathedral Terra's abilities are even more destructive, able to take down several Ashtanga units and their escorts in a single blast of its mighty cannon, albeit with help from the surrounding ships. Also, it appears that the Cathedral Terra is a unique ship in the Spiral Warriors' arsenal, as no other ships of this class are ever seen. In 8, Lordgenome also demonstrated his ability to use a Giga Drill Break with Cathedral Lazengann, hinting that this attack is an innate skill of all Spiral beings, rather than a "killing blow" of any particular individual as previously thought.
Powers and Abilities[]
Shoulder Drills: Instead of making drills out of spiral power like other forms of Gurren Lagann, Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann detaches the drills on its shoulders and attaches them over its hands. These drills can be placed on top of each other for a stronger attack.
Fingertip Drills: Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann pierces the enemy with finger drills and blows them up.
Super Galaxy Mega Cutter: It removes its massive sunglasses from its torso and throws them as a boomerang.
Full Drillize: In the case of Gurren Lagann it itself functioned as an attack, but in Super Galaxy it is the name of an attack. Because the main body itself is huge, each one of the drills is in full drilling mode, and all of them are super spiral cannons. Like the Gurren Lagann, it also has the power to create drills from many points on its body at once.
Multi-Cannon Shot: Multidimensional Probability Variation Control technique with cannons that shoot down omnidirectionally to every single point of space-time
Super Galaxy Giga Drill Break: Although it is the same as the original Giga Drill Breaker, this form is the most powerful. The two drills on the mecha's shoulders combine on a single hand attack the enemy. Its sheer power destroyed an Ashtanga battleship in one hit.

- Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann rising out of the dark sea with its arms crossed is a reference to Gunbuster, which itself was a reference to Getter Robo G.
- The glasses on Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann's face appear similar to those of Shin Dragon's 2nd form in Getter Robo: Armageddon.
- Similarly, the sunglasses on its torso are similar to (and have the same primary function as) the Boomerang on Great Mazinger's chest.
