Gimmy Adai (ギミー・アダイ Gimī Adai?) is a boy from Adai Village, who used to be cared for by Rossiu Adai. He is also Darry's older twin brother. He starts as a secondary character but his role grows larger as the series progresses.

Appearance[]

During Part I, Gimmy's orange hair fell low and straight down his face, framing his visage with a lock between his eyes. He wore a brown cloak in the style of a cape, under which he wore a black undershirt and blue shorts, with brown shoes. In Part II his hair has been spiked up quite a bit, the only remnant of his old hairstyle being the lock between his eyes. He wore the standard Grapearl Squadron uniform for the entirety of Part II, with the exception of Simon's wedding.

Personality []

Gimmy is the more impulsive and outgoing of the twins. In Part I, one would be hard-pressed to find Gimmy outside his usual joyous demeanor. He becomes more mature in Part II, being deemed mature enough to pilot his own Grapearl. While fighting the Anti-Spiral's Ashtanga and Death Groove Machine, Gimmy would show much more emotion, as he was distraught over the losses of his friends in Team Dai-Gurren, especially Jorgun and Balinbow.

Gimmy also was struck with fear when the Super Galaxy Dai-Gurren was trapped in the pocket of ultra-dense space, and wanted to join Kittan and Yoko in the fight against the mass-produced Ashtanga despite being unable to because of his fear.

Gimmy naively believed that Simon could bring any deceased person back from the dead because of his colossal Spiral Power, and wondered why Simon didn't do so instead of accepting the losses they'd suffered. After a short explanation from Yoko and some elaboration on Simon's part, Gimmy understood and was found worthy of inheriting Lagann by Simon.

History[]

When new children were born into the village, the population exceeded its limit of 50, which mandated that two people be removed and sent to the surface. Since Gimmy and Darry had no parents, the village elder chose them to leave the village, however, Rossiu decided to go with them.

The pair of twins have a very good bond with each other, and were often left to their own devices around Dai-Gurren, except when they were with older girls, such as Yoko or Nia. Gimmy tends to be more impulsive and reckless, which sometimes puts the duo in trouble.

Beastmen War Arc[]

Darry and Gimmy appear when Team Gurren falls into Adai Village. The two are picked to be sent to the surface, much to Rossiu's horror. When Rossiu goes with them, Team Gurren lets them join and Gimmy and Darry hang out in the back holder on Gurren during their travels. When Team Gurren heads out to take Dai-Gunzan, Darry and Gimmy cheer for Simon as he heads off. During the first season, they do very little but appear as comic relief and during the final battle of Tepplin, they wave to the victorious Gurren-Lagann.

When Team Dai-Gurren arrives and Arc Gurren-Lagann is formed, Simon lets Gimmy and Darry to take over the controls so he can stop the Chouginga Dai-Gurren. When the team goes into space to fight the Anti-Spirals, Gimmy and Darry continue to fight. Darry explodes a missile in order to save everyone. She is shot down in the explosion, so Gimmy goes and saves her. Jorgun and Balinbow help them get away, but at the cost of their own lives. Later, Gimmy and Darry are seen with Kitan. Gimmy asks him how he can go fight seeing as numerous others have died. Kitan then yells at Gimmy, telling him that the twins saved them because they believed in them.
