Anti-Spiral

The Anti-Spiral race (反螺旋族, Hanrasen Zoku, "Anti Spiral Tribe"?), or simply the Anti-Spirals (アンチ-スパイラル, Anchisupairaru?), are a mysterious species of humanoid beings that realized the danger of the Spiral Nemesis long ago. They found the means to cease their own evolution by purging themselves of Spiral Power, trapping them in a state of suspended animation as their collective consciousness took form to purge the universe of all Spiral beings.

History

Early History

Nothing is mentioned about their lives before they became Anti-Spirals besides that they were once normal Spiral lifeforms. Once they realized the danger of the Spiral Nemesis, they halted their own evolution and purged themselves of spiral power. ttThey remain as white humanoid creatures with no individual identity. Their collective identity continued their duty by fighting all Spiral lifeforms so that they can be limited and the Spiral Nemesis can be avoided.

First Anti-Spiral War

The Anti-Spirals found heavy resistance on Earth, since this was the home of the native Spiral warriors. The Spiral warriors held off the Anti-Spirals, driving them back into space, before pushing further into Anti-Spiral territory.

However, with the number of Anti-Spirals increasing as they pushed further in, the Spirals couldn't find the location of their enemy's base of operations, and soon both sides fought each other to a stalemate. This war of attrition continued until Lordgenome learned about the Spiral Nemesis and, as shown in Parallel Works episode 8, turned on the rest of the Spiral warriors in order to prevent more potential casualties. After the defeat of the Spiral Warriors of Earth, the Anti-Spiral set up numerous Human Extermination Systems all across the planet (some were in the form of unaware human beings), like Nia Teppelin and Super Galaxy Dai-Gurren, warning Lordgenome that if the number of humans on Earth exceeded one million, they would activate these systems and finish what they had started.

Second Anti-Spiral Arc

When the population exceeded one million, a single Mugann appeared to begin the attack while Nia, their messenger, was awakened. The moon (really the Super Galaxy Dai-Gurren) began to collide with the Earth to destroy all spiral life on the planet. When Rossiu Adai attempted to escape with a small portion of the human population to space in the Arc-Gurren, they were met with an ambush of Mugann. Gurren Lagann merged with the Arc-Gurren and defeated the Mugann and reclaimed the Super Galaxy Dai-Gurren. When Team Dai-Gurren arrived in the Anti-Spiral space, the Anti-Spirals sent Ashtanga-class battleships and mass-produced Anti-Spiral mechas to fight them. They played possum with Team Dai-Gurren, then began to defeat nearly all of the veteran Gunmen pilots. They then knocked the Super Galaxy Dai-Gurren into the Death Spiral Field, causing the attempt to create the Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann to fail since the Death Spiral Field drains all occupants of Spiral Power.

When Team Dai-Gurren escaped while also absorbing all the Spiral Power the sea had absorbed over time allowing the Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann to emerge, they tried to fight back with more Ashtanga and mass-produced Hastagry and Pada mechas, but were defeated quickly. The Anti-Spiral then sealed Team Dai-Gurren away in the Extradimensional Labyrinth. While they were trapped, the Anti-Spiral probed Nia for answers for her betrayal. Gurren Lagann appeared and rescued Nia. To counteract the newly-created Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, the Anti-Spiral created the Granzeboma. Despite nearly winning the battle, the Anti-Spiral lose when Simon and Nia (in Lagann) were thrown at him by Viral, and they used Lagann Impact. Before dying, they tell Simon that protecting the universe from Spiral power is up to him, before exploding.

Powers and abilities

The Anti-Spiral is depicted as being omniscient, omnipresent and nigh-omnipotent. They have the ability to replicate Spiral lifeform traits (for example, Granzeboma and its drills). They can freely appear anywhere in space-time and can produce mechas for combat, such as the Granzeboma.

Their attacks are powerful enough to create and destroy entire universes and multiverses, such as the Infinity Big Bang Storm which is an endless series of universal Big Bang explosions and the creation of the Infinite Multiverse Labyrinth which is an entire infinite multiverse. Their abilities have been shown to rip holes through multiple dimensions, showing that their power is on a God-like scale, furthered by the fact that they can alter the fundamental laws of reality, such as altering probability and creating matter much larger than universes out of nowhere; the Super Granzeboma's Giga Drill, for example, greatly dwarfs most, if not all, universes (like the Super Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann's Giga Drill). They also have the ability to revive people from the dead, and alter their memories and personalities.

They can freely move between dimensions (much like powerful Spiral Warriors), and can even create and destroy entire new dimensions. They can create an entire space in which they have control over all factors such as space-time and probability. The Anti-Spiral space they created, in which the Super Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and Super Granzeboma battle, is equivalent to the size of a multiverse with thousands of universes; during their clash, the Anti-Spiral space is destroyed and the Infinity sign appears, implying their combined power to be infinite.

Along with multiversal power, the Anti-Spirals are capable numerous reality-warping abilities, including the abilities to freely manipulate minds, power, reality, soul, space, time, and probability.

The only being in the Gurren Lagann multiverse that is shown to surpass them is Simon; he almost matches them with the Super Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, before eventually surpassing the Anti-Spiral on his own without any mech.

The Anti-Spiral

Appearance

The form of the Anti-Spiral has a black shape of a humanoid, with white eyes and a white, weird triangular shape, mouth. But those who are not awaken, are all white. When the anti spiral is moving, it seems like some hollowfic rotoscoping movements, even when he's just standing.

• The Anti-Spirals might have something to do with Lordgenome's red Spiral Power. As seen in Parallel works 8, after conversing with the Anti-Spiral, Lordgenome's coloring changed from green to red. While they could have been done for the mood, it might also be an explanation to his unique red Spiral Power as a representation of a Spiral lifeform's falling into absolute despair.
